He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).

-- John 1:42

When Peter showed up, Jesus was ready for him with a name change. Names were important in Bible times because they were suppose to relay a message to the people who you meet. People used names that told a story and Jesus was doing that with him. Your name will now tell a story about me. Jesus has a right to tell us that our life should tell his story, because he purchased us with his blood. We are part of his family and as such we need to obey the head of the family. We should, because he is God and serving him is the best thing we can do for us.

One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first *found his own brother Simon and *said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).

-- John 1:40-41

This has the, love your brother as yourself, written all over it. Andrew met the Christ, and his first thought was go tell his brother. It was the right thing to do because Peter became the leader of the early church. He was the one who did the miracles and preached the great sermons the Bible records. I believe that Andrew would still do it even though his name would be over shadowed by Peter. We need to be willing to be third. Jesus first, others second and us third. Andrew was that guy.

and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

-- John 2:9-10

There is a principle called delayed gratification that tells your future. It you are willing to practice it you will do better in life. You ask, “What does that have to do with Jesus changing water into wine?” Jesus didn’t spread this around, he kept it secret and obeyed his Father in heaven. If he hadn’t, that would have been sin and than he could not be our Savior. I thank Jesus everyday for salvation and it is because he waited and obeyed. He did the will of his Father and fought the good fight, and finished the race. He did it correctly and on time and we now have salvation.
